ISO MAK
-
So I just ran out of Windows 7 Pro keys. Microsoft doesn't sell them anymore. Anybody know where I can buy more, cheap? Or have any you're never going to use and are willing to donate to a good cause?
-
Looks like I still have them through my MSDN subscription.
Redistributing them seems like it would be a gross violation of the license terms though.
-
@error I wonder what my options are, then.
I guess my thinking was that a MAK key would be less... wrong to share, since there's only so many times it could be activated. Unlike an OEM key, for example.

Wat.
Can you reuse a key from a computer you've gotten rid of?

Besides quasi-legitimate resellers you can find by typing "Windows 7 pro key" into the Googles?
I don't think Microsoft ever though "Cheap" was the goal....
-
@Tsaukpaetra I don't think we have any retail keys in the building, other than the MAK we bought through TechSoup (for non-profits). I tried an OEM key from a different computer I'm going to trash, but it didn't work.
Fuck, I'm already so over budget this month I have to get paid in flex time next month.
-
Fuck it, I guess I'll start using the 50 Windows 8 keys we own...

Wonder if you can downgrade from them still?
-
@Tsaukpaetra That would be kind of nice. But I think I'd lose the ability to install by custom WIM image (i.e., I couldn't automate the install if I had to install Windows 8 and then downgrade the OS) I guess I could do it, though.
Unless you mean something else?
The nice thing about this approach is that I have different license keys for like 8 different variations of Windows 8 Pro, so that's a lot of activations.

I think if you activate it under Windows 8, you should be able to just pave over it afterward with your normal wim and it can theoretically activate. Maybe.
Can't hurt to try, just takes a ton of time...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yup, that's worth a shot. I just did a Windows 8.1 Ent. I'll give it a try now.
