RE: The minor rants thread.
Rant :
WTFDude : Hey can I disconnect this?
AnotherDude : Sure...
-- After some seconds main power for the test site goes off --
AnotherDude : WTF!!!
WTFDude : You just told me I could.
Anothe Dude : Yeah disconnect the JTAG next to you, that, you could do.
WTFDude : Oh silly... you though I meant that... well that's embarrassing.¿So you wonder why would WTFDude want to do that, and why would he word it like that instead of saying " Can I switch this off?", which would have warranted a second thought ? Well, because Fuck you, that's why
I mean sometimes you wonder how bad silly misunderstandings can get, then you know; then you wish you did not.

RE: The war of The One Table
Since you say you'll have some overlapping features between devices, can you split this off based on features?
That's probably a good approach, This all is still pretty green, I had though a per device solution thinking of the devices we have nowAre you saying that that data needs to go into the database or was that just some exposition?
Well I just realized I should probably press more to get that clarified. I know devices must be able to serve data at the lowest granularity. Then I was hoping we would only store summaries, because that makes sense to me, but I don't really know.We don't have yet detailed requirements for this, we have had a meeting telling us that some version of this is getting done. We need a toy prototype soonish (2 months kinda sorta), a couple of new device types talking to the CCSS and some colorful charts about them would probably do the trick.
Anyway That helped me get some thoughts so thanks. Just to clarify I'm not gonna "architect" this thing but I wanted to be able to propose
saneless crazy ideas, as long as I get to voice an opinion on this. -
RE: I can glue jQuery together, I don't need to know FizzBuzz!
No one has a reason to expect more of job descriptions. They're almost always put together or edited by HR, so the most that you can expect is that a thorough analysis of them may allow you to find strange inconsistencies, such as URGENT NEED IMMEDIATE INTERVIEW ORACLE MSSQL SERVER JAVA C# DEVELOPER IN [some place hundreds of miles away]
Maybe this is a problem? Which is one of her points and quite valid. better job descriptions would save money for companies and time for people going to interviews. Of the top of my head I remember a company that always ask for embedded developers experience doing drivers a plus and required experience compiling the Linux kernel. Now, maybe I'm utterly wrong and they indeed require a host of Linux kernel compiling developers, but I'm sorely tempted to interview with them just to know how many developers they need with that skill and how often they actually compile the Linux kernel. My bet is once a year they compile a Debian with the real-time scheduler flag on, or something like that

RE: Via imgur: "The software in my biomechanics lab."
I have seen a lot of LabView programs, mostly done by non-programmers, and no one has ever come close to mangling the UI so badly.
Edit: It sure looks like it was done in labView though, the point being the people who made it were probably special.

RE: I can glue jQuery together, I don't need to know FizzBuzz!
I mean – I would be suspicious of someone who could solve fizzbuzz off the cuff. They are likely to:1. have too much time on their hands2. had too many interviews asking that question3. be unsufferably arrogant4. or all of the above.
Being unsufferably arrogant sounds cool. Now to the meat. The gates of hell have opened where I work and now we are supposed to leverage Ada 2012 Aspects and in particular Pre and Post aspects, Suddenly I need to know all about this so... Ada target practice time:
with Ada.Strings;Use Ada.Strings; with Ada.Text_IO;Use Ada.Text_IO; procedure fizzMain is function Fizzbuzzify ( num : in Integer ) return String with Inline, Post => (if ( num mod 3 /= 0 and num mod 5 /=0 )then fizzbuzzify'Result = num'Img elsif (num mod 3 = 0 and num mod 5 /= 0) then fizzbuzzify'Result = "fizz" elsif (num mod 3 /= 0 and num mod 5= 0)then fizzbuzzify'Result = "buzz" else fizzbuzzify'Result = "fizzbuzz"); function Fizzbuzzify (num : in Integer ) return String is Representation : String := (if ( num mod 3 /= 0 and num mod 5 /=0 )then num'Img elsif (num mod 3 = 0 and num mod 5 /= 0) then "fizz" elsif (num mod 3 /= 0 and num mod 5= 0)then "buzz" else "fizzbuzz"); begin return Representation; end Fizzbuzzify; begin for I in 1 .. 15 loop put_line ("FizzBuzz " & I'Img & " magic " & Fizzbuzzify(I ) ); if (I =15) then pragma Assert(Fizzbuzzify(I)="fizzbuzz" ,"I fail at fizzbuzz give me the JQuery"); end if; end loop; end fizzMain;
I also plan on doing the 5 coding challeges as a way of learning to do this.
Spoiler alert :
Not gonna finish in an hour.

@cartman82 so if they are hot you are less of a cannibal?

Hey, business idiots! Learning a new techy word doesn't make you sound smart! How about you THINK what kind of product you want made, before you waste our time?
Sadly, not gonna happen learn to accept things you don't control and move on.
@cartman82 said in Feel free to integrate with this thread:
Boss: Hey Cartman, we are having a meating with this Israeli company. We need to see if we can integrate with their machine learning system.
Me: Umm, boss, it looks like their software is kind of orthogonal with our product. They should really interface directly with our clients.
Boss: Yeah... but <clueless business person> asked about this, so let's have a meeting anyway. When I get this kind of request I translate it as "We (or them depending on what makes sense, and possibly the ego-penis of the people involved) well develop a REST API so that data can be pulled and pushed. Then in your case (you have the clients) do the appropriate UI so that the users can see whatever "

RE: Rome Total War 2
@lucas1 you mean by playing the battle? or just with the auto calculator?. If you played the battle you are that good. In the other case I guess the general and the army traditions play a big role in the outcome of automatic battles, I never thought it to be unbalanced.

Any insight? The only feedback about this campaing is my coworker telling me he couldn't win it normal dificulty and "OMG so hard"

RE: Rome Total War 2
I have played this a bit. I have an ongoing campaing with the macedonians. I lost once playing the Romans in the Caesar in the Gaul expansion. I want to try that again leaning more towards asymmetric warfare (pillage + GTFO with an always , minus the winter, moving army).
Disclaimer: I am mildly drunk

RE: UNCHARTERED bus to San Diego
doubt there's anyone left who thinks so at this point
Kotaku? Fuck no.
Then why is Magus so indignant about it?, my 12 year old cousin doesn't know who Zeratul is either and it doesn't bother anyone.

RE: UNCHARTERED bus to San Diego
I liked the one where someone at Kotaku said, "Zeratul, a character we've only met through Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA."
I now fuckall about game journalism, is that supposed to be a good newsite or whatever?

RE: The Fox Ideas Thread
So I put that into Bing Image Search, and it came up with this:
Clearly you perform way too many fox related image searches.Also... ¿Pokemon?
